Pilates for Back Pain in Bromley
Back pain can affect every part of daily life, from walking and sleeping comfortably to exercising, working and enjoying the activities you love.
Many of my clients come to me because they have been living with back pain for months or even years and are unsure how to move safely without making things worse.
Through personalised one-to-one Pilates sessions, I help clients improve strength, mobility, body awareness and confidence in movement so they can return to the activities they enjoy.
“I have an ongoing issue with my back and my sessions with Jude are having a huge improvement on it. We've also worked on my balance which I had issues with after an accident, Jude has given me the confidence to push myself to a level I wasn't sure I could reach.” - Client Review
Understanding Your Back Pain
Back pain is rarely caused by a single weak muscle or a lack of flexibility.
Often it is influenced by a combination of factors including:
• Previous injuries
• Muscle imbalances
• Reduced mobility
• Poor movement & postural patterns
• Fear of movement after pain or injury
• Breathing mechanics
• Lifestyle and daily habits
Every client is different, which is why I take the time to understand your individual history, symptoms and goals before creating a programme tailored specifically to you.
How Pilates Can Help
Pilates focuses on improving the way your body moves as a whole.
Sessions may help you:
• Improve spinal support and stability
• Build strength without excessive strain
• Improve posture and movement patterns
• Increase mobility and flexibility where needed
• Reduce unnecessary muscle tension
• Improve breathing mechanics
• Rebuild confidence in everyday movement
Rather than simply treating symptoms, my aim is to help you understand your body and develop strategies that support long-term improvement.
A Specialist Approach
With over 20 years of experience, I specialise in working with clients experiencing:
• Persistent low back pain
• Disc injuries
• Sciatica
• Spinal stenosis
• Spondylolisthesis
• Degenerative spinal changes
• Postural problems
• Movement limitations following injury
Sessions take place on a one-to-one basis in my private Pilates studio in Hayes, Bromley, using a combination of matwork, Reformer, Cadillac and other specialist Pilates equipment where appropriate.
The Role of Breathing
Breathing plays an important role in spinal health.
The diaphragm, deep abdominal muscles, pelvic floor and spinal stabilisers work together to support the spine during movement. When breathing mechanics are compromised, the body often compensates by overusing the neck, shoulders and other postural muscles and we lose our ability to stabilise the spine and build intra-abdominal pressure which helps to support the entire body as we move.
Part of my approach includes helping clients improve breathing patterns to support more efficient movement, spinal stability and overall wellbeing.
